The Sony 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 is the standard zoom lens. 
 
It covers the range from classic wide-angles to a moderate telephoto settings with an equivalent field-of-view of a 27-83mm full format lens. 
 
It replaces the Sony 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 DT.
 
It features a “Smooth Autofocus Motor” (SAM), an internal lens motor, so it does not rely on the old screw-driven AF operated by the camera. The AF is fast combined with a fairly low noise level.
